Entry Requirements

Language entry requirements

 

The University accepts the following minimum English language standards for entry to its degree courses.

You must have at least one of the following standards in English to enter a degree or diploma course:

An IELTS score of 6.0, or a TOEFL score of 550 (or 213 for the computer-based test)

Pearson PTE Academic score of 54

A pass in the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) examination

A pass in the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) examination

GCSE/GCE O Level grade C or equivalent British-based examination

For selected countries, a good pass in English in the final year of secondary school (this being the equivalent of year 13 in England and Wales), or

Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the British Council (as listed in the British Council NARIC Guide) or an equivalent body

For entry to the BA (Hons) English Language and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programmes, you will need a score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, since this is a special award which includes an international qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

200 points at A level including a minimum of 160 points in 2 subjects excluding General Studies

You should have GCSE English, Maths and double science at Grade C or above or Key Skills Communication and Application of Number at Level 2

The Access to Higher Education Diploma requires candidates to accumulate 60 credits, at least 45 of which are at Level 3. To study awards in J700 BSc Biotechnology at the University of Wolverhampton, students must further achieve at least a 'merit' in at least 18 of their Level 3 credits.

 

Curriculum

Year 1 consists of an introduction to plant biology, animal biology and microbiology. It also provides insight in to the molecular basis of diseases and the chemistry that underpins the study and application of Biotechnology.

Year 2 expands many of the themes introduced in year 1 and focuses on organismal, cellular and molecular aspects of plant, animal and microbial life forms and their application in Biotechnology. This year also includes two practical skills modules where the theory is put in to a practical context and aspects of career development and research study skills are also covered.

Placement Year this is an optional, but strongly recommended part of the degree in which students can develop practical experience of biotechnology most often in the private sector.

Final year this year covers current and future prospects in topics such as gene manipulation, plant biotechnology, microbial biotechnology. You also undertake an Honours project of your choice.
