About University of Tennessee

The University of Tennessee (also known as UT or UTK) is a public sun-grant and land-grant university headquartered at Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. It was founded in 1794, a flagship institution of the statewide University of Tennessee system with nine undergraduate colleges and eleven graduate colleges.

The university enrolls approximately 27,500 students including 21,200 undergraduate and 6,300 graduate students. It offers more than 300 degree programs and more than 170 undergraduate majors, concentrations, and specializations.

The University of Tennessee is ranked 46th among public universities of America, and 101st among all United States universities by U.S. News & World Report, making it a first tier institution.

The primary mission of the university is to move forward the frontiers of human knowledge and enrich and elevate the citizens of the state of Tennessee, the nation, and the world. It embraces a three-part vision: Value creation, Original ideas, and Leadership.

RESIDENCE HALLS: We offer six styles of residence hall to suit the needs of all our students:

Apartment Style
Apartment-style residence halls are open to graduate students, as well as undergraduate students who have completed more than 30 course credits obtained after high school graduation. Apartment-style residence halls feature several living options including a single or double bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and, in some cases, a study area or a washer and dryer.

Community Style
Community-style residence halls feature rooms shared by two students with community bathrooms on each floor of the hall.

Pod Style
Pod-style residence halls typically feature rooms shared by two students, sharing smaller shared bathrooms located throughout the hallway.

Semi-Suite Style
Semi-suite style residence halls feature one or two double occupancy rooms with a shared bath.

Suite Style
Suite-style residence halls typically feature rooms shared by two students, a semi-private bathroom, and in some cases, a shared living room.

Super Suite
Super Suite style residence halls feature private or shared bedrooms, with a shared living area.

Campus

The John C. Hodges Library, Webster C. Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library, and George F. DeVine Music Library provide various study materials such as e-journals, digital collections, special collections. Interlibrary loan services are available as well.

All residence halls have cable TV, wireless high speed internet access, post offices, washing machines and dryers, and a variety of athletic equipment, games, cleaning supplies, and kitchen utensils.
