Curtin Malaysia offering four out of seven Curtin subjects ranked in the top 100 in the world

Miri - 7 August 2018 - Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is pleased that it now offers four out of seven Curtin subjects ranked in the top 100 in the world.

This follows Curtin University’s ranking in 33 of the 54 subjects in the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for 2018, including seven subjects listed in the top 100 in the world.

This year’s edition of the ranking, released by Academic Ranking of World Universities’ publisher ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, confirmed Curtin University’s highest ranking subject remains mining and mineral engineering, rising to 14th globally, up from 19th last year.

Curtin Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski said Curtin’s top 100 rankings for mining and mineral engineering (No. 14), chemical engineering (No. 49), earth sciences (51-75 band), and hospitality and tourism management (No. 44), will further strengthen the already very popular related courses offered at Curtin Malaysia.

“The latest Global Ranking of Academic Subjects indicates that Curtin University continues to improve on the world stage. We are delighted Curtin continues to climb these prestigious world rankings as the University expands its global footprint with campuses across Western Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius,” Professor Mienczakowski said.

Curtin Malaysia is the largest of Curtin’s international campuses and its global hub in Asia, as well as the largest Australian international campus in the world, delivering a wide range of Curtin courses in engineering and science, business and humanities to students from over 50 countries.

In addition to identical courses, Curtin Malaysia also offers its students an undifferentiated Curtin learning experience, sharing the same academic calendar, examinations and examination timetables and online study resources as the other Curtin campuses. Through distributed learning, students also experience two-way online delivery of classes between the Curtin campuses in Western Australia and Malaysia in real time.

This synergy allows Curtin students to transfer seamlessly between Curtin campuses for one-semester study or to complete their degrees at any stage of their undergraduate studies. Indeed, many Curtin Malaysia students choose to complete their final year at the Perth campus while an increasing number of students from the main campus have undergone short study at Curtin Malaysia over the last three years.

Overall, Curtin University’s ranking in 33 of the 54 subjects examined in the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is a significant improvement on 21 subjects featured last year.

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects collects and evaluates data from more than 4,000 universities across 54 subjects, grouped into five categories, including engineering; life sciences; medical sciences; natural sciences; and social sciences.

The results were published for more than 1,600 institutions from 83 different countries. For more information, visit: http://www.shanghairanking.com/Shanghairanking-Subject-Rankings/index.html.
