About
The Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS), a five-year programme delivers a comprehensive and holistic education aimed at developing competent, ethical, and compassionate dental professionals. This programme is offered at the MSU main campus at Shah Alam, Selangor.
The curriculum is designed into 2 phases: preclinical (year 1-2) and clinical (year 3-5) to fulfil the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) requirement and to comply to the Malaysian Dental Council standard. It integrates fundamental medical sciences in the clinical training, ensuring students are well-prepared for the challenging real world dental practice.
From the first year, students engage in pre-clinical skills training using state-of-the-art simulation technology. Clinical exposure intensifies throughout the programme, culminating in real patient care under expert supervision in modern dental clinics. The programme places strong emphasis on preventive dentistry, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment of oral diseases, preparing students to promote oral health across diverse communities.
For the elective attachment, depending on the availability at the time of study, students may opt for a placement with dental specialists in public hospitals for specialty exposure, or with private practitioners to gain insight into dental entrepreneurship.
In addition to clinical excellence, the BDS programme cultivates critical thinking, research aptitude, and a lifelong commitment to professional development with emphasis to the interdisciplinary teamwork.

The virtual reality is incorporated in the fundamental and preclinical practice. Students are exposed to various clinical set up range from standard clinical practise in the student polyclinic to the hospital-based training and the participation in community services with other healthcare professionals. It creates competent dental practitioner with strong bonding and friendly ethical and professional relationships amongst peers in managing oral health issues.
