In the 1980s, two Adelaide pastors on an international flight together were discussing their recent devotional reading in the Bible and when they both shared similar convictions from the same verse, they knew God was leading them in the venture of starting up a Bible College.
Right from the beginning, their heart was to see men and women trained and equipped for practical ministry with strong biblical convictions, and Adelaide College of Ministries was born.
Graduates from the late 80s and early 90s still tell stories of volleyball battles among staff and students amidst lectures and assignments – a community characterised by faculty and students rubbing shoulders together inside and out of the classroom right from the start.
The old church premises in Prospect served as an excellent venue in the early days, but soon proved to be too small. In 1994 Adelaide College of Ministries (ACM) moved to its current campus in Klemzig where the board, faculty, and a team of committed volunteers transformed a state primary school into an environment that has enabled a whole generation of students to be trained and equipped to minister the gospel.
Graduates from across Australia and New Zealand, as well as India, Singapore, Korea, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, the US and the Philippines, now serve in God's mission throughout the world in a variety of professional and lay capacities.
Since Dr. Tom Golding took on the role of Principal in 2004, he and his wife Diane have dedicated themselves to continuing to cultivate the rich learning community that is ACM. From the students and their families, to the staff and faculty, ACM is a place where you will find a deep desire to grow in God's Word together. The games of choice now are table tennis and basketball but our heart is still the same – we desire to see a new generation of men and women trained and equipped to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ throughout the world.
Adelaide has a population of about 1.3 million people, and is central to the other Australian capital cities with direct air, rail and road links to all.
Adelaide is well known for its gardens and parks, cafes, well-planned layout and terrific climate, with a mean temperature of 22°C. It is close to the sea, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and the River Murray, providing ample opportunity for outdoor activities. Housing and general living expenses are among the lowest of any Australian capital city, contributing to Adelaide’s recent ranking as the 5th most liveable city in the world!
The grounds of the college consist of two main buildings and a chapel surrounding a central courtyard. The courtyard's beautifully landscaped and picturesque lawn and garden provide a great study retreat or a pleasant place to have a coffee and chat.
The kitchen, lounge and dining area includes everything you need for lunch times and breaks. It is kept clean and tidy with a bit of help from the students.
The library is well equipped with over 14,000 books plus journals and DVD resources.
We have a chapel that's used every Friday for chapel services as well as at other times for special events. Many a student has preached their first sermon here!
Our lecture rooms are fully equipped and set up for the most effective presentation of lectures.
Finally, the recreation room is a great place to have a bit of fun! There's always an exciting game of table tennis to be had in between lectures - just to unwind.
